Do you ever wonder whether you’ve “made it”?
Do you ever feel you may have missed your destiny, your calling?
Do you long to feel more engaged in activities that you have a passion for, that you are good at, and that have meaning and purpose to you?
Or maybe you feel like you are in exactly the right place, doing what God has called you to, and you carry a sense of satisfaction about this?
All of us have the opportunity to reach up higher into all that God has called us into.
This looks different for everyone.
Here are a few areas you can reflect on to get a sense of how activated you are—and where you could step into greater activation and alignment:
Dreams and Vision
How well have you opened yourself up to exploring your ideas, dreaming big, and developing those ideas into a vision?
A vision is something that paints a clear picture. Having a compelling life vision—knowing what you want to do, where you want to make an impact, and what that could look like in year 1, year 5, and beyond—is powerful. It motivates you and aligns you with what really matters.
I lived my first 36 years without this. Then I took the brave step of daring to consider what my vision for life might be. It wasn’t easy. But 20 years later, I can look back and know that the work I’ve poured my life into over the past two decades means something to me. It’s changing the world in ways I dreamt of all those years ago.
Whether you are younger or older, it’s never too late to start. One of my coaching clients began building their vision in their seventies as a couple. They’ve found such fulfilment that they wished they had started in their forties.
Honestly, I wish I’d started in my twenties!
What ideas have you ignored in your heart? What would be worth dreaming about, worth building vision around?
It’s never too late for this. And it’s also never too early to begin!
Your Audience
How connected are you to the people you most long to impact?
I spent my early career in middle management, leading teams. In many ways, I was operating in leadership—which is my function. But I wasn’t deeply connected to either the team I led or the clients we served. They weren’t truly the audience I was called to.
This is not uncommon. God often develops us outside the realm of our ultimate call. We call this “outside preparation.” It’s most common for this to be God’s chosen path, before releasing us into the very heart of our calling. But we aren’t meant to stay in “outside preparation” forever.
We must identify and start serving those we are most called to. For most of us, there are several audiences. This doesn’t necessarily mean speaking or performing on a stage—it’s about everyday life and influence.
Ask yourself:
Who am I impacting the most now?
Are they the people I most feel called to?
Another way to ask it: If you could choose, who would you want to impact, and in what way?
Chances are, God has already placed a desire in your heart for those very people.
Capacity, Breadth, and Reach
Wherever you are right now—whether you’ve stepped into your calling or are still looking to discover what it is or exploring it—I guarantee your potential reach is one hundred times greater than what you currently see.
God sees it. He created you for it. Consider these verses.
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”
—John 14:12 (NIV)
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
—Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
Are you living at these levels yet?
If not, there is more for you. More capacity. More reach.
Message
Whether you teach, preach, write, perform, or simply live faithfully, you carry weighty, anointed messages full of hope, wisdom, and life.
Have you discovered what they are?
Are you releasing them in the way you were designed to?
If not, this is another area of destiny activation available to you.
Function
Square pegs don’t fit in round holes. God designed you with particular gifts, talents, strengths, and abilities for particular roles and functions.
How much are you operating in the functions you were created for?
If you are not, you are wasting your life. Your greatest impact will come when you are operating in the gifts and abilities that bring you joy.
It’s simple: pay attention to what you most enjoy doing. That’s a clue. God designed you to both love and excel at the things you are called to.
“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.”
—2 Peter 1:10 (NIV)
